Set up Avalara AvaTax

Overview

Avalara AvaTax calculates live tax rates and supports international VAT and GST. Review Third-party tax services overview first, since those rules apply here.

Steps

   Go to the Foxy admin.

   Go to Settings > Integrations and add a new integration.

   Set Provider to Avalara. The provider cannot be changed after the integration is created.

   Enter the Service URL (the production or sandbox AvaTax URL), Account number, License key, and Company code.

   Set the toggles as needed: Use for live taxes, Validate customer addresses, Enable Committed Sales Invoice, and Enable Colorado Delivery Fee.

   Optionally add Category to tax code mappings (see Notes), then click Create.

   Create or edit a tax, turn on Calculate tax automatically, and set Service provider to Avalara AvaTax 15. A country-level tax is recommended.

Address validation

Turn on Validate customer addresses to validate addresses on the checkout. Customers confirm a validated address; if an address is invalid they see a message and can still complete checkout or edit the address.

Notes

• Tax codes. By default Foxy sends each product's category code to Avalara as the tax code. To send a specific AvaTax tax code instead, add a Category to tax code mapping for that category. Avalara limits tax codes to 25 characters, so keep category codes to 25 characters or fewer where you rely on the default.
