Set up a second language on your store

How to add another language to your store with template sets, from creating the set to editing its wording and applying it to the cart.

A store can run in more than one language by using one template set per language. Each template set carries its own base translation, its own locale, and its own editable wording.

Steps

    Go to the Foxy admin.

    Go to Settings > Templates.

    Under Template sets, click Add template set + and give it a name that identifies the language.

    Set the Language dropdown to the base translation this set should start from, and the Locale dropdown to control price and date formatting.

    Save the template set. The string editor does not appear until the set has been saved.

    Reopen the saved template set and scroll past Payment method set to the string editor. Pick the tab for the area you want to change — cart, checkout, receipt, email, gift, downloadables, validation, messaging, minfraud, gateway, or one of the gateway-specific tabs.

    Edit the wording you want to change. Each string shows its identifier, such as cart_add_coupon, with the editable text below it.

    Click Save changes, which appears once you have edited something.

    Apply the template set to the relevant add-to-cart links and forms using the template_set parameter. Until you do, the new language is never shown to a customer.

Notes

  • To put a single string back to its stock translation, use the Restore default value icon beside it rather than retyping the original text.

  • Strings are stored per template set. Editing them in one set has no effect on any other.

  • Language and currency are separate. Setting a French base translation does not charge in euros — see Set up multicurrency with template sets.
